Marlow Bridge Lodge Clay Pigeon Shoot

Marlow Bridge Lodge Clay Pigeon Shoot

As the sun set on the 200th meeting of Marlow Bridge Lodge on 9th May 2014, the weather forecast for the following day didn’t look particularly appealing. If the Met Office, The Weather Channel and BBC Weather were all to be believed, we were running a tad behind on the building of our ark. Not only that, but if our Master were to lead us as the modern day Noah, he needed to grow the old beard a little bit!

It was with great apprehension that the curtains were drawn early on Saturday morning wondering whether the car would still be on the drive or whether we’d need to get the RIB out of storage and cruise up to College Farm’s Shooting Ground wearing life jackets. How would the bacon rolls get there also!

Alas, it was not to be – the sun was beaming down and we couldn’t believe our luck.

Arriving at the shooting ground early in the morning, bacon rolls and cups of tea were the order of the day. We were then split into groups and sent off to shoot some clays.

There was a fair bit of gusty wind which did make it slightly more challenging (yes – I am making excuses!), mixing the competition up a little. Everyone was catered for, whether a novice or an experienced shot. Even the girls did well!

Everyone did extremely well, however the official results were as follows:

  • Third Place: Xavier Garnham
  • Second Place: Llwyd Thomas
  • First Place: Evan Thomas (won his entry fee back)

Roger Page was presented with the ceremonial clay pigeon – more appropriate than a wooden spoon!

After the shooting and the results, food was enjoyed by all. All comments received were positive – I know I enjoyed myself also.
