I was introduced into Freemasonry in 1979 by two founders of the lodge, W.bro. Cecil Freeman and Bro. Len Goodway. The former was a business acquaintance and the latter a work colleague, both of whom I had known for a number of years. There was also a distant family connection to Freemasonry, as I had an uncle, who was an Essex Freemason, but I never knew that much about him, as he sadly passed away when I was a child.

I was initiated into Marlow Bridge Lodge in March 1980 and so began my Masonic career. I progressed through the various offices within the Lodge and in February 1988 I finally attained the Masters chair. Becoming a Freemason, was the best thing to happen to me, it has taught me how to promote Masonic virtues and values to daily life, to give support to both new Masons and existing Brothers within Marlow Bridge, by a regular attendance at our weekly Lodge of Instruction.

There is of course a considerable amount of learning required, if you are to progress up the Masonic ladder, however, it is important to stress, that every Mason started out the same way, and with the help of your Lodge, it’s members, and Lodge of Instruction, you will soon become a valued member of our society. I am now a Pensioner, but I find that learning ritual keeps my mind healthy, and very alert.

If you enjoy the company of like mined people, have a desire to make many new friends, both within your own lodge, and other lodges through visiting, and participating in many of the social activities we undertake, then Freemasonry is certainly for you. I am going into the Masters chair of Marlow Bridge, for the second time, in February 2015, I am excited by the challenges and opportunities that office provides during the ensuing year, and I would recommend Marlow Bridge Lodge to anyone, of any age and walk of life.
