In June 2015 I decided to return to masonry after a 20 year gap. Not a long holiday or a spell in prison either! Just business pressures and a lodge that was on the wrong side of the country to be long term sustainable. Anyway, regardless of circumstances, once a mason, always a mason.
I therefore looked around for a lodge in the Marlow area I thought might be suitable. I didn’t know anyone personally in a local lodge so I started looking online and the Marlow Bridge Lodge website attracted me, being the most informative with clear info. I filled in the “contact us” form and was quickly greeted with a response offering to meet and chat over a beer.
It could not have been easier or more straightforward. We had a great meeting and the Immediate Past Master offered to propose me as a joining member, and the secretary would second me, subject to the necessary checks.
In September, just before the re-start from the summer break, I was invited to an informal evening meal which gave me an opportunity to meet more lodge members in an informal setting. Great meal, great company.
As I had been out of things for quite a time, I was asked if I’d like to attend the LoI meetings as a guest before joining. This was really useful as it gave me a chance to reacquaint myself with activities, which I was roped into from the start. Lovely!
At the first regular meeting in November I was proposed in open lodge, then balloted for and admitted in December. The members of Marlow Bridge Lodge could not have been more welcoming or more helpful. I quickly felt part of the lodge and it is a pleasure being in their company. All in all a successful outcome.
As a final thing, I have been asked to act as steward by the new incoming Master for the coming year, so it continues to be interesting, varied, and above all fun. And I would like to say a big thank you to every member of the lodge. I could not have chosen better, and if you are thinking of finding out more about masonry and what we do, fill in the “contact us” form like I did.
